Upper Southampton Township Finances

Meeting Minutes: October 10, 2003

The October 10, 2003 meeting of the Upper Southampton Township Historical Advisory Board was called to order at 8:40 a.m. at the Township Building. Board members present were Mr. Day, Mr. Donahue, and Mr. Vogel.

Approval of the minutes of the Board's September 12 meeting was moved by Mr. Vogel and seconded by Mr. Donahue.

Mr. Vogel has scheduled meetings in the next month with contractors to get estimates for work on the Dry Goods Store. The Board felt that electric service should be installed as soon as possible. Mr. Day will contact the Water Authority to confirm that a water line had been run to the building.

Mr. Donahue has contacted the Pa. Historical Society concerning the papers of John Fitch. He and Mr. Day will go through the relevant files in the Historical Society's collection.

Mr. Day reported on a meeting with Senator Greenleaf to discuss the Township's efforts to arrange with SEPTA a lease of the Southampton train station. Arrangements will be made as quickly as possible to reinspect the building to have an up-to-date assessment of what work needs to be done in the short term to stabilize the structure. The Board discussed possible uses for the building. The feeling was that it should be made available to community groups, perhaps in exchange for help with restoration. Mr. Donahue will prepare a memo to present to SEPTA outlining our ideas for the eventual use of the station.

The Board has received a donation of $200 from the Southampton Women's Club.

At 9:35 a.m. Mr. Donahue moved that the meeting be adjourned, seconded by Mr. Vogel.
